Prints by Tarleton Brooks

Tarleton Reynolds Brooks was born in Japan and grew up in Asheville, North Carolina. She studied art at the North Carolina School of Design, the Atlanta School of Design in Atlanta, GA, and at Art Center, in Pasadena, CA.

She works as a painter and karate instructor at Northampton Karate Dojo in Northampton, Massachusetts. She is a Third Degree black belt in Matsubayashi Ryu. Her paintings appear in the book "The Rhinoceros Tale, (A practitioner's guide to the alchemy of action)", by Jeffrey M. Brooks, published in the fall of 2002

Tiger

The tiger watches intently, holding close to the earth. The Chinese characters (lower left) “Nai Han Chi” mean “clawing the earth,” are the name for a karate exercise (kata) in which an immovable connection is made between the center of the practitioner and the center of the earth.
