Grab And Downward Knife Attack

By Prof. Gene Roos

I know what you are thinking. “Those with experience don’t attack this way.” For the most part you are right.

But the concern is with those who aren’t trained -- the ninety nine point something percent of the population – who may lash out to hurt you in anger, or frustration, often combined with intoxication, or mental impairment. They may grab a bottle, club, knife or other convenient object, or use their finger nails or balled fist to strike down at you in an uncontrolled, but natural, overhead swing. Thus, this is a defense you should not ignore.

It gets more difficult if, as shown here, the attacker first grabs with one hand and then attacks with the other.

In this senerio, someone grabs you with one hand and attempts to strike down at you with the other. Here the attacker is using a knife, but remember, it could just as easily it be any object, or a fist, or someone trying to rip your eyes out. This is one solution.

Attacker's left hand grabs the defender's coat as he attempts a right hand over stab either with a knife or syringe.

Defender's left hand strikes the attacker's right wrist across to the left. This action will probably cause the blade or syringe to stab attacker's left arm.

Defender's left hand grabs and applies a wrist lock on the attacker's right hand.

As the defender steps to the rear, his right hand pushes the attacker's right hand downward.

After the attacker is on the ground, the defender maintains his wrist lock on the attacker.
